Parlour Magazine Beauty Spring 2009

Parlour Magazine Spring Beauty 2009.
Delight in this spring's sweet treats. Be inspired by a visit to your local patisserie; frost your lids with shades of petit-four pinks, mint greens, sugared violets, and butter creams. Skin is glowing and hydrated, dusted with iridescent silver, pearl and champagne highlights. Treat your cheeks to decadent shades of pink and peach, using blush creams and cheek stains to achieve a natural flush. Glaze your lips with barely there shades of fleshy pink, lilac and peach. These guilt free indulgences will compliment this season's feminine, flirty fashions while satisfiying your sweet tooth.

Parlour Magazine Beauty Fall 2008

Parlour Magazine Fall Beauty 2008.
Well summer is over. It's time to pack away your bikinis and sandals and pull out your luxurious sweaters and favorite boots. And like fall's sumptuous fashions, slow sunsets and turning leaves inspire this season's makeup.
Skin is matte and flawless with a healthy flush from within. Use a moisturizing foundation and a cream blush to achieve a look that is radiant and hydrated, but never powdery.
The secret to the perfect fall eye is a sculpted base. Round out eyes for a romantic dreamy look or carve outer corners for a more vixenesque appearance. Whether you choose a subtle look using russet, taupe and cream or an opulent visage of chocolate, chartreuse and plum, enhance your eyes with shadow, light and texture.
This season's lips are freshly plucked, think succulent raspberries and luscious grapes of the vine. Choose velvetty matte textures, and use sparingly for a sheer stained look or layered with a gloss for a laquered finish.
Complement the ambiance of this fall season with rich, saturated, velvetty colours, and like a glass of Pinot and a crackling fire, you will be deliciously irresistable.

Parlour Magazine Beauty Summer 2008

Parlour Magazine Summer 2008 Beauty
Gone are the gilded bronzes of last summer. This season's makeup is subtle, sunkissed, and sexy.
Beauty guru Nicola Gavins of Cherry Blossom Makeup Artistry tells us that, "it's like you spent a day at the beach, not a month." You don't have to ditch your bronzers, just use them with a lighter touch.
Picture a lazy day at the beach, lovers squinting at each other through veils of lashes, freckeled noses, salty kisses and flushed cheeks. It's a virtual flight of whimsy featuring shell pink, moonlight platinum, sun-washed gold, and pebble grey.
And to translate this daydream into an evening out, glam it up with a flash of colour, be bold with a splash of electric blue on the eyes, or an acrid orange lip. The ethereal colour palette of the day is the perfect canvas for a hit of high drama.
Nicola recommends MAC Face and Body Foundation to keep skin looking flawless and hydrated morning to night. And this seasons must-have, dont-leave-home-without item? Sunscreen, and lots of it.

Dragonette

Parlour Magazine invited me to do makeup for their Summer 2008 feature on Dragonette. Dragonette is a Juno nominated electro-pop group from England (originally from Canada), Martina Sorbara (lead vocals), Dan Kurtz (bassist), Joel Stouffer (drummer) and Will Stapleton (guitar). They were in town to play a show at The Starlight Room, which I was fortunate enough to attend later that evening.
